Why is the Slow Loris Threatened?

Slow loris & Social Media
These problems are accentuated in social media because many slow loris pet owners are sharing videos “tickling” their adorable loris. This is problematic because this increases demand for poaching which is a highly stressful process for the animal and most of the captured lorises (30%-60%) die in the process. After they are pouched, they are transported in sacs or wire cages with tied arms and legs. Their teeth are extracted with pliers and wire cutters without anesthetics or proper medicinal care. Jaw fractures and mouth wounds are very common and lead to severe infections and death.
